Welcome to the website of Jules' Mescaline |
September 2009 Jules' Mescalines’ album Pure will be released. Singer/Songwriter Jules Otto invites you to a collection of songs in which depth and sphere are combined with breathtaking melodies and a solid rocksound.
Allthough first published on a full length album, Jules Otto is not an unknown name, particularly in the North-Dutch music scene. Being active since the late 80-s in bands as D-Scan, Jules Unlimited and Dean, in which he worked together with guitar legend Dany Lademacher (Herman Brood and his Wild Romance, The Radios, Paris Dandies) for the first time. Between 2003 and 2007 Jules Otto produced the album “In A Valley Of Wolves” for Nightporter, the alias of Rotterdam artist Mark Ritsema.
Most of the songs at the album Pure were written by Jules Otto at home in primitive conditions: computer, old drum-kit, guitar, base guitar and microphone. Using his demos and with a clear direction on what to do with them he started rehearsing with a band. Their first gigs (amongst them being supporting act for Wishbone Ash) showed the formula worked. Even in times of stage recession Jules' Mescaline was one of the most asked for and successful acts in The Netherlands.
This caught the attention of Dany Lademacher, a regular guest guitar player with Jules' Mescaline. He didn't only introduced Jules' Mescaline with his record company PMM Records, but also proposed to produce the record. Everything else is history. Not only the band Richard van Wijk (percussion), Peter Smitskam (bass guitar), Andre van Rijswijck (lead guitar) and Peter de Koster (keyboards, organ), but also cooperation of some well known Dutch artists performed the steady, almost classical sound of rock as foreseen by Dany Lademacher and Jules Otto. And not at least you regularly can hear Dany Lademacher playing his phenomenal sound.
Very extraordinary, Dutch rock diva and well known radio and television host Manuela Kemp joined Jules' Mescaline by singing a duet with Jules on the epical track “Another Summer Tale”. This song – the first single - will appear in a special radio-edit.
“Pure”s sultry cover design had been specially made by the well known expressive artist Rob Scholte.
Jules Otto is mostly influenced by great musicians such as David Bowie, Bryan Ferry and Johnny Cash, performers who – just as he – aren’t shy to use drama and a full gesture in their voice. With his warm and deep voice Jules hits your soul but never looses his sense for melody and dragging refrains. Typical musical influences from bands like The Doors, Pink Floyd and occasionally the raw new wave sound of The Sound can be heard throughout the album.
With “Pure” Jules' Mescaline has found its own voice and sound with pressing music and direct lyrics from which the subconscious speaks and an untouched sphere dominates. As a listener “Pure” will get you by the throat and Merscaline’s art makes it surprisingly accessible. |
